Concert Production

Here is a chronological ordering of steps you should take to prepare for a performance at CCRMA:

  1. CCRMA concert events typically have some sort of connection to computer music or aspects of CCRMA research. The CCRMA Stage is not suitable for general-purpose concert use.
  2. All concerts must be requested at least 2 weeks in advance of first rehearsal. This gives us reasonable time to secure the room, rehearsal time, and a tech person to assist you or train you in using the Stage facilities. Many concerts and events require to have a CCRMA tech person in attendance.
  3. Go to: https://music.stanford.edu/resources/reserve/performance-hall-requests and follow the instructions there to request a hall for your event.
  4. Enter ALL pertinent info (this information goes directly to the Music Department staff since CCRMA concerts are also Music Department concerts).
  5. If your event requires recording, make sure to request it in the reservation form.
  6. Go to https://ccrma.stanford.edu/room-guides/ccrma-stage and read the CCRMA Stage Guidelines.
  7. Email Nette Worthey (networth at ccrma) a brief description of your intended event and an answer to the question "Why CCRMA?"
  8. If approved, a tech person will be assigned to your event and you will receive an email.
  9. If your event takes place during regular business hours, the tech person will assist you. If your event happens in the evening or during the weekend—and depending on the nature and specifics of the event—you may have to learn in advance how to operate the equipment yourself, or arrange with the tech person to be there.
  10. You are responsible for all clean-up related to your event, including restoring the Stage to its default state and dealing with any food you provide (only allowed with prior approval).

Making a Concert Program

Build a page template that is 5.5"X8.5" with left/right margins of .69" and top/bottom margins of .59".

Page layout is right to left and format of 1,2,3,4.

Enter all of the program info in order.

When you go to print, choose options, under pages click "left pages, right pages, brochure", don't "print automatically inserted white pages", click ok

Then choose "properties".  the pages should be printed on letter as landscape, offsided-1.

Now you can print and check that everything is correct.  If you're pressed for time, you should get the program made from this hard copy.

To get a higher quality program, you should export to pdf and take the file to Kinkos. Your pagination will be lost, but then you have kinkos paginate.  They will want one day for a proof and then another to print.

There you have it!

PS. IF YOU ARE USING NEO OFFICE ON MAC OS X, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:

These instructions work for those starting with Letter portrait pages and want to end up with an 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 booklet (i.e. Letter folded in half.)
